The Trans Laureate’s chief roles and responsibilities:*

  • Cultural Visibility: Celebrate and elevate the stories, identities, and creative expression of trans people across the U.S.A.

  • Community Engagement: Create at public programs, such as performances, workshops, exhibitions, or readings.

  • Representation: Serve as a civic and cultural ambassador at local, regional, national, and international events.

  • Healing & Empowerment: Use creative tools to combat transphobia and foster resilience.

Requirements

  • Applicants must:

    • Be at least 21 years old by the application deadline.

    • Reside in the United States of America.

    • Identify as transgender, nonbinary, or gender expansive.

    • Demonstrate experience in the arts, humanities, or community storytelling.

    • Exhibit enthusiasm and a readiness to serve as a cultural ambassador.

    • Be collaborative and community-oriented.

    • Be open to supporting outreach and community fundraising efforts.

* The Trans Laureate’s responsibilities will vary, per term, based on available funding and in agreement with the Advisory Board.
