The Trans Laureate’s chief roles and responsibilities:

  • Celebrate and elevate the stories, identities, and expression of trans people across the trans diaspora. 

  • Use creative tools to combat transphobia and foster resilience. 

  • Serve as a cultural ambassador, where possible, at local, regional, national, and international events. 

  • Receives a $5,000 grant during the duration of their tenure.

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old by the application deadline.

  • Open to anyone across the world.

  • Identify as transgender, nonbinary, or gender expansive.

  • Demonstrate experience in the arts, humanities, or community storytelling.

  • Exhibit enthusiasm and a readiness to serve as a cultural ambassador.

  • Be collaborative and community-oriented.

  • Be open to supporting outreach and community fundraising efforts.
