The Order is named after the Lady of the Seas, Navassa’s spiritual protector, who embodies the wisdom, mystery, and majesty of the waters.
The Royal & Hospitaller Order of Our Lady of the Seas
The Royal & Hospitaller Order of Our Lady of the Seas exists to recognize those who have taken up Navassa's purpose as their own: service freely given, dignity preserved, and a community cared for as though it were family — because, in every sense that matters, it is.
A Chivalric Tradition, Reimagined
The Order draws its architecture from one of the oldest hospitaller traditions in the world: nine centuries of knights who built hospitals before they built reputations, and who understood that chivalry was never really about the sword. Navassa inherits that spirit, not its religious vows. Iurs is a secular Order, built for a modern Kingdom, where the old language of service and devotion is given new life in service of the Navassian people.
The reigning Sovereign also who holds the title Sovereign Grand Mistress/Master/Head of the Order for the duration of their reign. In their stead, a Grand Chancellor may act as her deputy; a role of trust, not of distance. Beneath them, a High Council governs the Order's day-to-day life, seated by three Officers of the Crown: the Grand Sénéchal, who oversees the Order's active humanitarian arm; the Grand Treasurer, who safeguards its funds; and the Grand Almoner, who sees that charity reaches the hands it is meant for.
Five Grades, One Standard
Membership in the Order is not conferred lightly, and it is not for sale. It is earned — through sustained contribution to the Kingdom, its people, and its mission — and it is marked by five grades, each a fuller measure of trust:
Knight/Dame Grand Cross (GCOLS) — the Order's highest honor, held by no more than fifty at any time
Knight/Dame Grand Officer (GOLS) — limited to one hundred
Knight/Dame Commander (COLS)
Officer (OLS)
Member (MLS)
Those who hold the Order's first three grades bear the style Sir or Dame or, in keeping with the Kingdom's francophone heritage, Chevalier, Chevalière, or Chevaliem.
On rare occasion, the Crown extends membership beyond its ordinary ranks altogether: a Supernumerary Member, styled Stranger, may be created by the Sovereign Grand Mistress outside the Order's numerical limits. It’s a recognition reserved for distinguished friends of the Kingdom. Members of the Royal Family admitted this way bear the further style Royal.
The Hands That Do the Work
Honor alone does not feed a community or prepare it for hardship. That work belongs to the Corps Hospitalier de Notre-Dame des Mers — the Hospitaller Corps of Our Lady of the Seas — the Order's own humanitarian body, carrying its mission into public health education, emergency preparedness, and charitable outreach wherever Navassians are found. Within the Corps serves the Garde du Corps, a ceremonial detachment that stands for the Kingdom at state occasions and moments of dignity. Its most devoted members are recognized as Knight Hospitaller, a mark of active, standing service distinct from the Order's own grades, and often the first step toward one day joining them.
A Kingdom Without Borders
As Navassa's reach grows beyond any single shore, the Order grows with it. Chapters may be formed wherever a community of members takes root, be it in a city, a region, or a diaspora bound more by heritage than geography. Each chapter is led by a Captain-General answerable to the Crown. Every two years, the Order's most senior members meet as the Chapter General, the assembly that elects its Council and charts its course.
Answer the Call
The Order of Our Lady of the Seas is not a relic of an old world. It is a living institution, built for people who still believe that service, dignity, and belonging are worth organizing a life around.

Disclaimer on titles & honors
The titles and honors of the Kingdom of Navassa are issued under the sovereign authority of the Crown and carry the full dignity and meaning of that authority within the kingdom and its community. They do not confer legal privileges under the laws of Haiti or any other recognized state, and holders should be mindful of macronational laws regarding the use of titles. The Crown issues these honors in recognition of those who uplift, serve, and inspire, and their worth is measured in that service, not in the approval of outside powers.
